Frances Slanger Lifetime Achievement Award

The Executive Board of the BCHSNAA has voted to initiate a nursing achievement award to honor deserving alumna who have advanced the practice of nursing during their career. Any member of the BCHSNAA can nominate a candidate during the year by notifying the secretary of the Board. The Board will then screen the nominees and decide upon that year’s choice. The criteria for this award are as follows:

1.  The Award will henceforth be known as the Frances Slanger Award…in recognition of Frances Slanger RN.  Ms. Slanger was a BCHSON graduate who gave her life in service to her country.  She was the first nurse KIA in WW II. 


2.  The nominee should be a BCHSON graduate.  (Exceptions to this criteria will be voted on by the Board of Directors of the BCHSNAA).


3.  The nominee will have demonstrated outstanding care and clinical skill in their chosen area of clinical practice.


4.  The nominee should be recognized as a strong advocate for the profession of nursing.


5.  The nominee will have supported nurses to be an equal partner in health care.


6.  The nominee will have encouraged nurses to pursue further education to advance the profession of nursing in the health care realm and promote acknowledgment by other healthcare professionals.


7.  The nominee will have a recognized voice at the local, regional or national level to advocate for nurses and our role as skilled practitioners.


8.  The nominee will have published or used any form of media to promote the advancement and recognition of nurses. (encouraged but not required).
